The 25-year-old has been a primary target for the Citizens this summer as they aim to flex their muscles in the transfer market and build on their Premier League title triumph last season.

Attaining Grealish won’t be easy, though, hence the offer which would dwarf Paul Pogba’s move from Juventus back to Manchester United for £89million.

Pep Guardiola and Co.’s task may have got even tougher too, with Villa doing their best to keep the England international and Euro 2020 star playing for Dean Smith.

The Daily Star report that chiefs at Villa Park have made a last ditch attempt to keep Grealish in the midlands.

Villa owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris are said to have personally sanctioned a £200,000-a-week contract as they scramble to keep their talisman at his boyhood club.

Grealish signed a bumper £125,000 new deal last year with United heavily linked, but that ship has seemingly sailed after the Red Devils paid Borussia Dortmund £73million for Jadon Sancho.

The Athletic also reported on how the midfielder would fit into Guardiola’s system, likely to operate as a central playmaker like Kevin De Bruyne rather than a wide attacker – like he played under Gareth Southgate this summer.

City have also been monitoring Harry Kane’s situation at Tottenham Hotspur, but The Telegraph say Grealish is now their main transfer target.

ESPN added that youngster Morgan Rogers, valued at £10million, is part of the package that the Sky Blues are offering. The Three Lions man, a fan favourite at the European Championships due to his tally of two crucial assists from fairly limited minutes, is yet to return to pre-season training after holidaying with his fellow international team-mates.

Villa moved to sign Norwich City winger Emiliano Buendia for a fee that could rise to £38million in June and are also interested in Bayer Leverkusen wide man Leon Bailey.

Smith’s new recruits would certainly help the Villains recover from losing Grealish, but could also entice him into staying and help his side push for a top-half finish.

The manager has remained coy on the situation but their mooted business speaks volumes.

Reports suggest that the Birmingham-based club once again going in for Southampton skipper James Ward-Prowse following Villa’s failed pursuit of Arsenal prodigy Emile Smith Rowe, things could move quickly for incoming at the Etihad and Villa Park if an agreement can be struck.
