And home fans BOOED at the final whistle as England delayed their knockout confirmation until the final group game against Czech Republic on Tuesday.

Supporters were shocked when Foden, one of the team’s few bright sparks, was hauled off in the 63rd minute for Jack Grealish.

And former Three Lions striker Wright laid into Southgate’s decision at the final whistle before also questioning the decision to leave Jadon Sancho on the bench.

Branding England’s overall performance a disaster, Wright told ITV: “There’s no way Foden should be leaving the pitch today.

“You’ve got Sancho on the bench – 15 goals and 20 assists a season – and he doesn’t even get on.

“We need to create… I’m embarrassed for us today.”

Meanwhile, England captain Kane, hauled off with 15 minutes left, believes his side need to keep their heads up and bounce back well against the Czechs.

Kane said: “Credit to Scotland, they created a few chances themselves.

“It wasn’t our best performance but we dust ourselves down and look forward to the next game.

“[Surprised to be subbed?] No, it’s part of the game. The manager will make decisions best for the team.

“Sometimes you just have to take it for what it is. We have another big game in a few days.

“It was a tough game. Scotland defended really well, made great blocks at the right time.

“That’s football. No game is going to be easy. We have a big game against the Czechs in a few days.

“Obviously we want to finish top. We’re one step closer to qualifying and that’s what we want to do at the moment.”
