Arsenal narrowly missed out on a top four finish in the Premier League this season by one point and now Mikel Arteta is looking to ensure that the history will not repeat itself next season by splashing out around £150 million in the transfer market this summer.

The Gunners remain on course to sign Manchester City ’s Gabriel Jesus and are reportedly ‘close’ to sealing a deal, while it has also been revealed that the club held talks with Victor Osimhen’s agent last week as they look to bag themselves two strikers ahead of next season.

Arsenal hold advantage over Spurs in Jesus race

Arsenal ’s quest to sign Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus goes on as Mikel Arteta remains desperate to add a clinical goalscorer to his side, but there is the feeling that the Gunners are ‘close’ to completing a transfer for the 25-year-old.

Brazilian outlet ge Globo, via football.london , claim that Jesus’ relationship with Arsenal director Edu Gaspar is crucial to a deal to move to London, which means that things could begin speeding up in order to bring the 25-year-old to the Emirates Stadium.

This would be huge in Arsenal’s case and would help them stave off any potential hijacking of the deal from north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who have recently expressed their desire to capture the Brazilian forward this summer as he heads into the final year of his contract.

Osimhen agent flies to London

The agent of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen flew into London last week to hold talks with Arsenal’s technical director Edu to discuss a potential transfer for the Nigerian forward this summer, according to Goal.com , as Mikel Arteta looks to get his required business done early ahead of next season.

Despite being heavily linked with Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus, it is understood that Arteta wants two strikers this summer and had listed Osimhen near the top of his priority list, with the Gunners looking to finally replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who left in the January transfer window, and out of contract pair Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah.

However, with Napoli playing UEFA Champions League football next season, it will make prying Osimhen away from the Italian’s very difficult, while it is expected that the Serie A club’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis will want to receive far more than the £68 million ($85m) transfer fee that he paid Lille to sign the 23-year-old in 2020.

Gunners plot £150m transfer spree with nine players axed

Arsenal’s owners have already revealed that they are ready to back Mikel Arteta this summer in order to help them bridge the gap between themselves and the top four positions, of which they narrowly missed out on this season by just a single point, as they look to avoid the same mistake next season.

And as a result, the Gunners are prepared to spend £150 million on players this season, as Arteta eyes at least four new signings, although they aim to make up to £60m in player sales in a mass cull of at least nine first team members who are now viewed as surplus to requirements.

According to The Sun , this includes Hector Bellerin, Lucas Torreira, Bernd Leno, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Pablo Mari. Matteo Guendouzi and Konstantinos Mavropanos have already been sold for a combined sum of £12.5m, while Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah look set to leave upon the expiry of their contracts.
