Arsenal transfer round-up: Bukayo Saka could be sold, Man Utd battle for starlet

Arsenal are ready to undergo a major summer revamp with Mikel Arteta at the helm.

The Spaniard has been unimpressed with what he has seen so far with the Gunners toiling in the Premier League.

They sit ninth in the table and would do well to qualify for the Europa League at this stage of the season.

Bukayo Saka may have to be sold to bolster their transfer funds going in the summer window.

One player Arsenal have their eye on is Thierry Small – a 16-year-old prospect at Everton – but Manchester United are also interested in the teenager.

While ex-Arsenal midfielder Michael Thomas is hopeful that the Gunners can bring in four players.

Here’s today’s Arsenal transfer rumours.

Arsenal might sell Saka

Arteta is desperate to bankroll a major summer splurge in the next transfer window but Arsenal are strapped for cash.

It means they may have to sell Saka, who is one of the club’s most valuable assets, report The Times.

The 19-year-old has been a standout performer over the past two seasons for the Gunners and has led to strong interest in him.

It is not a plan Arteta is keen on and is seen as a last resort but with Arsenal potentially missing out on European football, the chances are looking more likely.

Matteo Guendouzi, Sead Kolasinac, Lucas Torreira, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Hector Bellerin, Calum Chambers, Eddie Nketiah, Rob Holding, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Nicolas Pepe are also on the chopping block.

Man Utd and Arsenal battle

Man Utd and Arsenal are keen on signing Thierry Small

United and Arsenal are reportedly set to battle it out for the signature of Everton starlet Thierry Small.

The 16-year-old is one of the most-promising talents in the Premier League youth ranks and has caught the attention of the Toffees’ rivals.

According to The Metro , Leeds, Brighton and Brentford are all also keeping tabs on the left-back with a view to muscling in ahead of United and Arsenal.

The trio of clubs could also hold a significant advantage in the race as Small has made clear his frustrations at his lack of first-team appearances at Everton.

Everton will try to tie Small down to the club after his next birthday in August, while potential suitors would have to stump up around £1million to land him this summer.

Arsenal tipped to sign four

Martin Odegaard has been tipped as one of four to join on a permanent basis

Former Arsenal star Thomas believes the Gunners must sign four players this summer to close the gap on their Premier League rivals.

“Credit where it’s due, Arteta looks like he is bringing back what it means to play for the shirt. He has a no-nonsense policy,” he told

“But it’s going to take time and good recruitment to close the gap that has opened up. Liverpool are on a different level of the process right now.

“I do believe, however, that except for Manchester City, Arsenal are very capable of beating all the teams above them right now. But can they perform week in, week out? That’s what we need to see.

“I think a right-back is needed and I am liking the links with [Achraf] Hakimi at Inter.

“I saw him at Dortmund and thought this guy has an engine with some quality. Cover at left-back is essential.

“[Kieran] Tierney is fantastic and seems to only be getting better, but someone with experience who can still offer something, like [Ryan] Bertrand, would be good in there.

“Yves Bissouma of Brighton would be my pick for a partner to Thomas Partey in central midfield. Both are solid, can use the ball well and are 90-minute players. Finally, keep [Martin] Odegaard! He has great vision and works extremely well.”
