It’s been a fairly dreadful start to 2022 for Arsenal as they are yet to win a single match, and they were humiliated by Nottingham Forest who knocked them out of the FA Cup.

Mikel Arteta and his side have also been the subject of heavy criticism following their successful request to postpone Sunday’s north London derby, despite proceeding to loan out Pablo Mari shortly after.

Arsenal were the biggest spenders in the Premier League over the summer, as Arteta spent £150million on new signings, but although they have significantly improved this season, there are still issues in the squad that need to be ironed out.

One of those issues is with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is returning from the Africa Cup of Nations early, but Arsenal are still targeting a replacement striker this January to lead their line for the foreseeable future.

Here Mirror Football brings you all of the latest transfer news at Arsenal.

Things seem to be going from bad to worse for Aubameyang as the Gabon national team confirmed on Monday that the forward will fly home early from the Africa Cup of Nations due to health issues.

Aubameyang didn’t even manage to kick a ball for Gabon as it was discovered the star had ‘lesions’ on his heart after battling Covid, although Arsenal’s doctors are not believed to bed concerned.

Aubameyang has been sent home regardless, and the Gabonese star has expressed his views on Twitter, as he said: “We have problems that are already complicated to solve, then on top of that there are rumours, in short, we have health to take care of first and foremost.

“I won’t go back on these false rumours and I sincerely hope that our team will go as far as possible.”

It’s yet to be seen when Aubameyang will be back in Arteta’s plans, if at all.

Arsenal ‘submit hefty bid’ for Vlahovic

Dusan Vlahovic is being chased by many sides across Europe, including Arsenal

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic for some time, and it appears that their interest has gone a step further as a bid has been submitted to the Italian side.

According to Corriere della Sera, Arsenal have submitted a hefty £50million bid for Vlahovic, and their offer also includes a permanent move for Lucas Torreria, who is on loan at Fiorentina already.

Fiorentina have already expressed that they are not willing to let their star go unless a substantial offer is made, but Arsenal’s player plus cash offer is a serious statement, which may be enough to tempt the Serie A side.

Vlahovic doesn’t want to renew his contract at the club, and Fiorentina are willing to accept a large offer this January, as Arsenal look to beat fellow Premier League competition to sign the 21-year-old.

Diego Costa has been linked with a shock move to Arsenal in recent weeks, and the rumours have now intensified further as the Spaniard has parted ways with Atletico Minero, making him a free agent.

The former Chelsea star has reportedly held informal talks with several clubs, with Arsenal one of the front-runners according to speculation, and now Gunners fans are starting to believe that his Minero exit could mean he is on his way to the Emirates.

Costa took to Instagram to send a message to the Minero fans, as he said: “Today, officially, I say goodbye to Atletico.
