Arsenal transfer news round-up: Torreira future twist, Duvan Zapata tease

Arsenal are set for a busy summer transfer window, and could well be challenged by their lack of European football.

The Gunners are currently sat in ninth place and face a near-impossible task if they want to secure Europa League football for next year.

Mikel Arteta’s side will face off against Slavia Prague in the quarter-finals of this year’s competition, and could well have to win it in order to secure European football for next season.

If they don’t, they could well have to negotiate their summer transfer activity without the lure of being able to offer European football, and will have to be smart with their business.

Duvan Zapata tease

Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata has offered the Gunners hope that he would be willing to join them this summer.

The Colombia international told Gazetta dello Sport: “My future in Premier League? Never say never in football… when I was a child, I was always watching the Premier League: I was an Arsenal fan! I woke up early every weekend to see their matches.”

Arsenal are expected to look for a new striker this summer, and have been reportedly scouting Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

He has just nine first-team appearances so far this season, and Gunners fans have been calling for Arteta to give him a chance.

Lucas Torreira interest

Lucas Torreira reportedly has ten games to prove he deserves to have his Atletico Madrid loan move made permanent, but he could have a potential route out of Arsenal regardless.

Torreira has been poor while at the La Liga leaders, and has barely featured for Diego Simeone’s side.

But according to ESPN, Boca Juniors believe they can sign Torreira due to the fact the midfielder is a fan of the club.
