Arsenal’s players are believed to have held talks about potentially following Thierry Henry’s lead and holding a boycott of social media.
Club legend Henry announced last week that he will not be posting on the likes of Twitter or Instagram for the foreseeable future in protest against online abuse.
And current members of the Gunners squad could be set to follow in his footsteps after holding wide-ranging discussions over what they can do.
Arsenal have themselves recently launched a campaign called #StopOnlineAbuse, which will seek to crack down on some of the vile comments their players have been subjected to.
A statement from the club read: “All of us at Arsenal – players, staff and fans – stand together to address the flow of abusive posts and messages on social media platforms. We call on everyone to join forces and identify, condemn and highlight abuse when they see it.
“This is about changing attitudes and making a difference every day We do this through our community work and the Arsenal for Everyone programme – but it’s time for us all to work together…”
Henry, meanwhile, has deleted his social media accounts after releasing a strongly-worded statement on Friday.
He said: “From tomorrow (Saturday) morning I will be removing myself from social media until the people in power are able to regulate their platforms with the same vigour and ferocity that they currently do when you infringe copyright…
“The sheer volume of racism, bullying and resulting mental torture to individuals is too toxic to ignore. There HAS to be some accountability. It is far too easy to create an account, use it to bully and harass without consequence and still remain anonymous.
“Until this changes, I will be disabling my accounts across all social platforms. I’m hoping this happens soon.”
