The Gunners have turned things around in north London following the disappointment of their first three games of the season that saw them sit bottom of the Premier League after a hat-trick of disappointing defeats.

Arteta’s side are fifth in the league and only outside of the Champions League placings on goal difference.

New signings such as Aaron Ramsdale and Ben White have been in flying form of late, and Arteta is keen to bring in a new set of fresh faces to ensure his side are playing European football next season.

Rumours have circulated recently about the future of Manchester City’s wantaway winger Raheem Sterling, who is thought to be keen to join Arsenal.

Like most at the Etihad Stadium, Sterling has been regularly rotated this season, but the English winger wants to nail down a spot in the starting eleven on a week by week basis and has since stalled contract extension negotiations.

Ian McGarry stated on The Transfer Window Podcast: “It’s the case that his representatives have met with Man City and are saying their player does not wish to continue or indeed explore an extension on his contract.

“Instead, they would prefer to explore the option of a loan deal, which they would like to begin in the January window. Whether or not that’s possible remains to be seen but there are several interested parties, including Arsenal.

“We know that Sterling himself turned down the opportunity to join Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent basis last summer but the idea of moving back to London, the idea of having the guarantee, almost, of a starting place in another elite Premier League club is extremely attractive to him.”

With Alexandre Lacazette set to leave the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season when his contract expires, it is no surprise to see Arteta eying up a striker.

The Gunners are set to go head to head with Newcastle to attempt to sign Gabriel Barbosa from Flamengo.

Barbosa, more commonly referred to as Gabigol, has scored 11 goals and assisted five in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A which has attracted the interest of Arsenal and Newcastle, according to 90min.

It is believed that an offer of over £25million would convince Flamengo to part ways with the 25-year-old, which wouldn’t be the biggest of fees for Arsenal considering how they splashed the cash before the start of the season.

Arsenal are eying up a move for Real Madrid midfielder Isco

Despite buying Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid in the summer, Arsenal are reportedly interested in returning to Los Blancos for another attacking midfielder – Isco.

The Spaniard is thought to be in the shop window at the Santiago Bernabeu and Madrid are willing to offload him as soon as January.

Sevilla are also tempted by the prospect of signing the 29-year-old who was once regarded as one of the rising stars of the La Liga and will have to go to battle with Arsenal to sign him, according to La RaZon.

Whether Arsenal need Isco, considering they made Odegaard’s loan permanent before the start of the season and the good form of Emile Smith-Rowe, remains to be seen.
