Arsenal hit with big double injury blow ahead of game vs Sheffield United

Arsenal will be without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Emile Smith Rowe for their trip to Sheffield United on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta will be seeking a reaction from his side following their defeat to Liverpool in their last league outing.

But they will be without their striker, who is absent because of the flu.

Aubameyang’s form has caused plenty of headlines with Arteta leaving the 31-year-old on the bench for Thursday’s Europa League draw.

Smith Rowe meanwhile has been ruled out with an ankle problem, reports the Athletic.

Arsenal are meandering in 11th but a win will take them up to ninth, above Leeds and Aston Villa.

The Gunners won this fixture 2-1 earlier in the year and Sheffield United’s woes have only worsened.

The Blades have only won four league games all season and relegation seems inevitable.

Arsenal lost this game last term back when Unai Emery was still in charge, but despite Sheffield United’s decline Arteta is taking nothing for granted as he harbours hopes of a late European charge.

“What they do every week,” he said when asked what he expects from the Blades.

“A team with a big compromise, a big commitment and they are fighting every single game, which is not easy for the opponent and we are going to face a difficult game again.

“We have no time to prepare or recover, but we know what we are going to be facing.

“At this moment, win the next game against Sheffield United. That is the only focus for us at this moment.

“It is nine points with eight games to play, there is still plenty to play for, mathematically it is still possible, but we have to put a run together.”
