Arsenal hero Sol Campbell dubbed “Judas c***” in X-rated spat with Tottenham fan

Sol Campbell was involved in an ugly spat with a Tottenham fan in Rome ahead of England’s Euro 2020 quarter-final against Ukraine on Saturday.

The former centre-back shocked the football world and left Spurs supporters furious when he sensationally left them to join their bitter North London rivals Arsenal on a free transfer in the summer of 2001.

Campbell has been a figure of hate amongst the Lilywhites faithful ever since, and offensive songs are still sung about him 20 years since he made the move.

Footage on social media showed Campbell in a restaurant in Italy, where a fellow diner said: “Here he is, Sol Campbell. Judas c***.”

He then makes reference to a vile song about Campbell’s death as he adds: “Jelly and ice cream when you go mate.”

In response the 46-year-old approaches the man and says: “What’s wrong with you? You’re a t***** mate,” before leaving and adding on the way out: “You’re two bob.”

As a parting shot the abuser says: “You deserve it mate for what you done. F****** Judas. You deserve it. See you later mate”, to which Campbell replies: “Jog on” and walks off.

Campbell has recently opened up about his move from Spurs to Arsenal, and says it is “ridiculous” that he still gets abused for it.

Speaking in a talkSPORT documentary about him, Campbell said: “It’s ridiculous because it happened such a long time ago.

“Are you going to keep worrying about me when I’m 80 years old? I was 25 and now I’m 46. You’ve probably done things when you’re 25 or 15 or whatever. It doesn’t even make any sense now, move on.

“New team, new stadium, new type of lifestyle going forward, and still passing it around like a campfire story. It’s ridiculous.

“For me, it is what it is. We all made our decisions, you accept it and you move on.”

Campbell is currently looking for a new managerial job, and has been out of work since leaving Southend United in June 2020.
