Aaron Ramsey reveals Juventus frustrations after hiring personal fitness staff

Aaron Ramsey has hired his own medical and fitness team after being left frustrated by his treatment at Juventus.

Ramsey is with Wales preparing for their opening Euro 2020 Group A game in Baku against Switzerland.

The midfielder has struggled in Italy with the Turin giants since a free transfer from Arsenal in July 2019.

A succession of injury problems have put his future in serious doubt after just 24 League starts in two seasons.

Ramsey, 30, who earns over £400,000-a-week, admitted: “It has been a quite challenging time over the past couple of seasons.

“There have been many factors and changes that I haven’t been used to.

“In the end now I have got my own team around me who are focused on me, to get myself into the best possible shape.

Ramsey has struggled for form and fitness in Italy and could be on the move later this summer

“Football is a team sport and a lot of the time it is about the team and everybody doing the same things, when maybe some players need a bit more attention.

“So I take it into my own hands and have the right people around me to try to come up with the best possible plan to get myself back into a place where I am feeling good and confident again.”

Ramsey’s team are not in Wales’ camp in Baku but were in Cardiff previously and are liaising with the international set-up.

He added: “They started off with us, they did a few weeks with us so I had a good few weeks with them, settled in really well.

“The Welsh staff and medical team have been brilliant, they have been open for discussions and it’s important to all be on the same page.

Aaron Ramsey scored twice in a 2-0 win over Hungary when Wales won their final qualifier to reach Euro 2020

“I have known a lot of the Welsh staff for a long time from my Arsenal days as well.

“They understand me, they know my body and they know what I need.

“Hopefully we can all play a part to try and get myself in the best place.”

Ramsey didn’t train with Wales’ squad on Thursday as he did an individual session instead.

But he insisted: “It was planned that I stayed off my feet. I am all good and looking forward to Saturday.”
