5 Barcelona players who could move to Premier League in firesale including Philippe Coutinho

Barcelona are ready to offload a number of top players this summer in a firesale to reduce their wage bill and tie-down Lionel Messi to a new bumper contract.

Currently, according to Goal, the Catalan club’s financial woes are so serious that they are unable to register Messi along with any new signings ahead of the coming season.

This means that, as things stand, Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia, and Emerson will not be playing for Barcelona until they lower their wage bill.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is in the process of trying to balance the books by offloading the highest earners and those out of favour at the club.

So far Francisco Trincao has joined Wolves on loan for the season with an option to buy and Junior Firpo has signed for Leeds.

Konrad De La Fuente and Jean Claire-Todibo have also both been sold to Marseille and Nice respectively, while Matheus Fernandes’ contract was terminated at the end of June.

Barcelona still have some way to go to reduce their wage bill, and a number of top players have been put up for sale as a result.

Five players that realistically could be sold this summer are Philippe Coutinho, Sergio Busquets, Ousmane Dembele, Samuel Umtiti, Miralem Pjanic.

All five earn big money, and none are considered to have huge futures at the club.

Barcelona paid £142million for Coutinho back in 2018 but would reportedly accept around £30m for him this month.

The Brazilian has previously been linked with a sensational return to Liverpool, but a transfer has never materialised.

Umtiti, meanwhile, was once linked with Arsenal, but it seems Mikel Arteta and co. are more interested in signing Ben White these days.

And Ousmane Dembele has previously been linked with both Manchester United and Liverpool but the two clubs have cooled their interest in recent months.

The Red Devils have also just signed Jadon Sancho and have now turned their attention to landing a centre-back.

Whether any of the Barcelona five complete transfers this summer remains to be seen, but the La Liga club are certainly keen on selling.

Barcelona’s financial situation means that certain clubs could make a bargain signing, although wages may still be a stumbling block.
