AC Milan midfielder Tommaso Pobega has admitted that the team ‘need a spark’ in order to put the bad start to 2023 fully behind them.
Milan welcome Sassuolo to San Siro for the Sunday early kick-off looking to end a streak of five games without a win, a negative run that started with the collapse against Roma back on January 9 to draw 2-2 and saw the Rossoneri’s confidence seemingly plummet.
Since then, Stefano Pioli’s men have lost against Torino in the Coppa Italia despite the fact they had 10 men, against Inter in the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia, and most recently were beaten 4-0 by Lazio in the capital.
Pobega spoke during an interview with Milan TV broadcast before the game at San Siro which should be played in front of over 70,000 fans, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
“The coach is very clear: we need a spark and we know it. The right approach is enough to put these bad matches behind us. We have worked and we will try to face the match in the best possible way,” he said.
“They [Sassuolo] are a strong team that tries to impose its way of playing. We have prepared for the game with our characteristics, playing as we know how.”
On the fans, he added: “In Rome they gave us a signal. We must try to do the best for them too.”
Pobega was also interviewed by Sky: “Today the most important thing is the attitude and how we approach the match and being on track for 90 minutes. Those will be the most important things.”
