Tonali admits he spoke to Donnarumma after Scudetto win and reveals plan to call Gattuso

AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali has revealed that he received a message from Gianluigi Donnarumma after the Scudetto win at the weekend.

Donnarumma’s exit aroused plenty of disappointment and anger in his decision to reject Milan’s contract offer in favour of joining Paris Saint-Germain. Many believe that he chose to leave in the wrong manner, having constantly professed his love for the Rossoneri but in the end allowing a situation to happen where he left without the club receiving a fee.

Tonali spoke during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport and revealed that Donnarumma did reach out to congratulate him, also hinting that he left for PSG in order to ‘win immediately’ which was not guaranteed at Milan.

“He wrote to me. I hope he is as happy with our success as I am with his. He went to Paris and won immediately, he knew that here there was a path to follow. Brick by brick we built our victory,” he said (via MilanNews).

Tonali was also asked a bit more about the messages that he has received and the ones that he plans to send, confirming his plan to send Gennaro Gattuso something given how happy he is that the Rossoneri managed to win the league title again.

“My grandmother who came to San Siro for Milan-Atalanta. It is not a message, but a gesture that made me happy. My phone is on lock, as soon as I unlock it I will call Gattuso first: I know he is happy that Milan are back to winning,” he revealed.
