Tomori insists Milan are ‘believing’ ahead of facing ‘aggressive’ Liverpool: “We will give everything”

AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori is ready for an ‘intense’ match against an opponent he knows well in Liverpool, who he expects an ‘aggressive’ game from.

The Rossoneri know that they must first beat Liverpool at home tomorrow night and then wait for good news from Portugal where the match between Porto and Atletico Madrid will take place. If it is a draw or if Atletico win by the same margin as the Rossoneri (or a lesser margin), then there will be wonderful scenes at San Siro.

Tomori was interviewed by Sky Italia ahead of the game against Liverpool and offered a lot of credit to Jurgen Klopp’s side and the difficulties they will cause, with his comments conveyed by MilanNews.

“It will be an intense match, there will be a stadium ready to support us, we know it will be an important match,” he said.

“We respect Liverpool, we have seen in recent years the way they play, they are an aggressive team that often comes to cross and have great ball possession, they score a lot, so we know it will be difficult but we know we have to show personality, show that we want to win and I’m sure that tomorrow putting all this on the pitch, we hope it will be a good match for us.

“If we win we have a chance to qualify, I think in the first leg we were a bit unlucky in terms of results, because we played well, but we missed the result, but now we know we can qualify and we have to go out on the pitch believing in it.”

It was announced last week on Milan’s official website that Simon Kjaer underwent an arthroscopy on his left knee to reconstruct his anterior cruciate ligament and re-insert his medial collateral ligament. The operation was carried out at the La Madonnina Clinic and was perfectly successful, but he will be out for at least six months as a result.

Tomori has lost his main defensive partner for the rest of the season therefore, and the Englishman spoke on what his absence will mean and how he can step up.

“Simon is an important part of our team. On and off the pitch he has a strong personality, he’s a leader and he showed how important he is this season and it’s hard for us to lose a player like him, but the time has come when we need to unite as a team, play for him, win, go through and have a good season for him.

“For my part, when I play, when I talk or wherever I am I try to give my best to the team as a leader, but I believe that every single player on the team now has to give something more. And it’s time for us to beat Liverpool. We will give everything.”
