Theo Hernandez’s recovery crucial for Milan in both phases

Theo Hernandez has missed AC Milan’s last two games and Stefano Pioli can breathe a sigh of relief that he is back to face Juventus tomorrow after he was absent for the defeat to Chelsea.

As MilanNews reports, the Frenchman returned to training with the squad after the strain he sustained at the end of the match against Napoli before the international break, and he is virtually guaranteed of a start against Juve tomorrow.

Theo spoke during an interview with the magazine Undici and he spoke about how much he feels that he has grown since joining from Real Madrid in 2019: “Since I arrived here I have grown a lot. From the first day, both from a football point of view and as a person. When I arrived here I was not what I am now: I have grown a lot thanks to the Coach, my teammates, and to Paolo.”

Theo is still hungry, he doesn’t stop there: “I want to continue growing and working. Today I feel like a more mature man, and I feel that way on the pitch too.”

Fode Ballo-Tourè stepped up admirably in the league win over Empoli last weekend – even scoring a last-minute winner – but it is obvious that he does not offer the same level of performance compared to Theo and the game at Chelsea showed it.

Theo is an attacking weapon, but Pioli has also used him to disrupt the opposing wingers and the 25-year-old – who celebrated his birthday yesterday – has improved enormously even in the defensive phase.

“When I arrived at Milan I was not defending well. Now I have improved, but I can still improve more: I have to improve, in many different things,” Theo admitted. Juve provides the opportunity to show his development.
