AC Milan

“Then there was a change”

Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that he was actually close to becoming AC Milan’s new manager a few years ago.

Last night Jose Mourinho’s Roma faced off against Pellegrini’s Real Betis in the Europa League and the Chilean coach got the better of his opposite number as the LaLiga side scored a late winner to record another impressive win.

Pellegrini has coached at some of the elite clubs in Europe such as Real Madrid and Manchester City but he is yet to tick off coaching in Serie A. It could have been very different however as Milan approached him.

“In 2016 I was close to Milan, but then there was a change of ownership that pushed me to China,” he said (via MilanLive).

From the comments we can infer that he is referring to the 2016-17 season, given that the sale of the club to Yonghong Li by Silvio Berlusconi did not take place until April 2017.
