AC Milan

The truth about Milan’s interest in Atalanta star prior to Maignan signing

When Gigio Donnaruymma decided to not renew his contract, AC Milan were quick to sign Mike Maignan from Lille. They paid a mere €13m as the Frenchman had just one year left on his contract, but he wasn’t the only target.

The Rossoneri were also interested in former Udinese goalkeeper Juan Musso, who moved to Atalanta for just €20m this summer. As reported by Calciomercato.com, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara thought about it more than once.

However, they never deepened the talks with Udinese, also because the latter were asking for €30m this spring. Atalanta eventually managed to seal the deal for just €20m, but it’s also clear that Milan made a good decision.

Maignan has been spot on thus far and the low transfer fee was certainly a bonus. Replacing Donnarumma was never going to be easy for the Rossoneri, but it seems they did a pretty good job at it.
