The real reason behind Giacinti and Boquete leaving AC Milan Women

Former Milan captain, Valentina Giacinti, and former midfielder, Veronica Boquete, recently left the Rossonere. The two players have joined ACF Fiorentina and only Giacinti will return at the end of the season.

Newspaper il Corriere della Sera recently revealed the rift that led to the two, star players leaving the team. The passage below is from an edition of the paper that was printed on January 14th, 2022…

“[…] Fiorentina is a new adventure, and a quick learning course at the school of Patrizia Panico, who is a legend of women’s football … The coexistence between Giacinti and Ganz at Milan had, by now, become complicated.

“The coach, who had previously doted on Valentina, had felt offended by the controversy and criticism over the then-new signing, Verónica Boquete, to whom the Bergamo native had given too much credit, as was confirmed by the team. As a result, Boquete was expelled from the squad immediately, while the captain’s armband was removed from Giacinti.

“The forward then became increasingly distant from the soul of a Milan that was in Maurizio Ganz’s hands, even after the collapse in the derby (this was also confirmed by the team’s technical director, Paolo Maldini). And for those that disagreed with them, they were shown the door.

“In Florence, there is a beautiful house in the city’s center and long walks are taken to discover a city that she does not know. Valentina Giacinti also finds Vero Boquete there and also searches for her lost sense of serenity, as well as her goal-scoring instinct as she chases after the Euros in England.

“Valentina dreams of being a protagonist for the Azzurre, just as she was at the 2019 Women’s World Cup. Italy made an unexpected quarter-final finish then and it led to an explosion of growth for women’s football [in Italy].”

Both Valentina and Vero have already gotten off to a good start with their new team, as Vero registered an assist in their first game for La Viola against Sassuolo. Valentina, on the other hand, scored in Fiorentina’s last game against Juventus, and thus ended the team’s 36-game win streak. The match finished in a 2-2 tie.

Fiorentina and Milan will meet again on March 27th of this year.
