The 20 decisions that will make the summer explode: Messi, Mbappe, Haaland, Kane, Ramos

This summer transfer window promises to be the most exciting in many years with the likes of Sergio Ramos, Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane, as well as Lionel Messi all having important choices to make. Here, we look at 20 decisions that will have a seismic impact on the market.

The Messi soap opera

This decision is just around the corner, with Lionel Messi’s contract up on June 30. Barcelona know that their entire project under Joan Laporta depends upon his decision to stay at the Camp Nou or leave and at the moment, everything points towards his renewal. “The Messi situation is going well, but it is not done yet,” said Laporta.

Mbappe keeps dodging

Kylian Mbappe’s future looks to dominate headlines throughout the summer. The 22-year-old has a contract with Paris Saint-Germain until June 2022, but talks to renew with his club have not begun and Real Madrid are waiting in the wings. With a price tag of 160 million euros, as per Transfermarkt, his move will have a seismic effect on the transfer market.

The Cristiano enigma

Cristiano Ronaldo could be looking for a way out of Juventus after a difficult season. Whilst he finished as the top scorer in Serie A, his team’s failure to clinch the title and the fact that they scraped into the Champions League places right at the end of the season have left him frustrated. After three years in Turin, the Portuguese forward could be on the move.

The Haaland bank

There is not a team in world football who would not love to have Erling Haaland, given his astonishing ability and potential. Whilst he is not expected to remain at Borussia Dortmund until the expiration of his contract in 2024, there is less certainty about where he would move, should he do so, this summer.

The Griezmann domino effect

Antoine Griezmann’s two-year career at the Camp Nou has been plagued by inconsistency and below-par performances. With his contract until 2024, Barcelona will be looking to sell him this summer and it can be guaranteed that he will not be short of suitors.

Hazard’s bad star

One of the most talked-about enigmas of European football is the situation of Eden Hazard. The excitement around his arrival in the summer of 2019 soon dissipated after a serious ankle injury suffered in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain. He has struggled since his return as his price tag has plummeted and Real Madrid could look to sell him this summer.

The Harry Kane surprise

Whilst Harry Kane is desperate to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, his contract situation could make a move difficult. With a contract until 2024, any club wishing to sign him will have to pay over 100 million euros.

The Dembele date

Having arrived at Barcelona with the task of filling the Neymar void, his return has been largely disappointing, although he did enjoy his best season at the Camp Nou last summer. His contract is up in 2022 and the talks over a new contract have stalled, which could see him move on this summer.

Sergio Ramos’ time

Sergio Ramos faces a difficult summer ahead. With his Real Madrid contract up in a few weeks and the club unwilling to offer him a long-term contract, he is similarly not in demand from other top European clubs.

Donnarumma’s slap

Gianluigi Donnarumma faces an uncertain summer. With his contract at AC Milan up in June, he looks no closer to agreeing a new deal. Meanwhile, his club have already bought his replacement, Mike Maignan from Lille.

Doubt over Dybala

Paulo Dybala has found his career stuck in limbo. With his contract at Juventus up in 2022 and no new deal agreed, he looks set to leave the club this summer. Without doubt, at 27 years of age, he has a key role to play for any team that sign him.

Chaos over Bale

The situation with Gareth Bale is as unpredictable as ever. He is meant to be returning back to Real Madrid this summer, but for all anyone knows, he could just as easily retire altogether.

The Joao Felix area

Although it seemed certain that he would stay at Atletico Madrid after the LaLiga Santander title triumph, the possibility remains that he will leave this summer. Although the 21-year-old’s contract runs until 2026, he has shown this season that he is not a vital player for Los Rojiblancos.

Varane clears everything

With his contract up next summer, it seems more likely that the French central defender will leave this summer than stay at Real Madrid. The 28-year-old will not be short of suitors and his club could be looking to secure a sizeable transfer fee.

Lautaro is a classic

Lautaro Martinez is already becoming a key player in each transfer window. Having won the Scudetto with Inter, he could be on the move this summer, with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid or Real Madrid interested in the 23-year-old.

Another Morata summer

Once again, Alvaro Morata’s future is not clear. Whilst Juventus has an option to sign him permanently from Atletico Madrid, it is not known if he will stay in Turn or return to Atletico Madrid, where his contract ends in 2023.

Jadon Sancho the magician

Jadon Sancho, the Londoner who dribbles like a Brazilian, could potentially be on his way out this summer. However, any move will be complicated due to Borussia Dortmund’s desire to keep Sancho and Erling Haaland.

Kounde, the safe

This season has seen Jules Kounde establish himself as one of the best central defenders in world football. His price tag of 80 million euros is not out of the price range of many clubs and he could be on his way out of Sevilla this summer.

Wijnaldum, totally free

Liverpool are preparing to lose Giorginio Wijnaldum, who has been a vital player in their success of recent seasons. His move to Barcelona looked to be guaranteed, although Paris Saint-Germain have now entered the frame.

The latest Depay episode

With his contract ending this summer, Memphis Depay’s move to Barcelona looks likely. At 27 years of age, there is little wonder why Ronald Koeman is so keen on bringing him to the Camp Nou.
