Solskjaer reveals what plan for Dalot was amid reports he wanted Milan return

Diogo Dalot was heavily linked with a move to AC Milan this summer, having spent last season on loan there. However, the Rossoneri ended up bringing in Alessandro Florenzi, much to the disappointment of the Man Utd man.

The Portuguese defender, able to play on both sides, did well for Milan and impressed the management. However, the asking price that Man Utd was seemingly too high as the Rossoneri never entered into advanced negotiations.

In a recent interview, as cited by MilanNews, Man Utd manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer shared some background to Dalot’s summer and why he didn’t leave. Among other things, he stated that the Milan spell was simply for experience.

“Diogo had a great summer. He was called up for the Euros, he did well with Portugal’s U21 team. He learned a lot in the season on loan at Milan. He has qualities that we will try to get to know better, because now he has more. Last year’s loan was scheduled for him to gain experience and have minutes,” he stated.

It seems, however, that Dalot wanted to return to Italy this summer. As reported by the Manchester Evening News (via MilanNews), Dortmund made an offer for him but he decided to refuse the advance. He waited for a Milan move, though nothing ended up materialising.
