Milan expected to pay €1.3m to stay on track with their plan for Colombo

AC Milan are aware that they have a real talent on their hands in Lorenzo Colombo and they have a plan in mind for his future, according to a report.

Today’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) dedicates a section to the future of Lorenzo Colombo. The centre-forward department has some uncertainties moving forward as Olivier Giroud will renew his contract currently set to expire in June 2023, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic could retire, Divock Origi’s start has not been good and Marko Lazetic is also inexperienced.

Colombo could be the ideal internal solution to add some depth. He is a boyhood Milan fan that has been with the club since 2010, and in September 2020 he made his debut for the club in the Europa League against Bodø/Glimt, scoring his first goal.

In January 2021 he was sent on loan to Cremonese and then last season he was at SPAL in Serie B before returning to base and being sent on loan to Lecce with an option to buy. The 20-year-old has scored two goals in the league and one in the Coppa Italia in 14 appearances so far, with two assists.

If things continue this way, Milan are likely to have to pay €1.3m in order to bring him back because Lecce secured an option to buy at €2.5m while the Diavolo have a buy-back at €3.5m, and there are €300k in available bonuses linked to appearances and goals.

Milan are very unlikely to let Colombo slip away but it is probable that next season he will be sent out elsewhere on loan before returning permanently to Milanello in the summer of 2024.
