AC Milan are continuing to tackle the issue of Rafael Leao’s renewal and they have been forced to think about replacements for if they are forced to sell, reports claim.
A report from our colleagues at CaughtOffside writes that Milan are ‘looking to rival Barcelona’ in their pursuit of Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli, as a potential replacement for Leao if the club were to have to part with him.
They cite Spanish outlet SPORT who recently reported that Barcelona have been watching the 21-year-old in action for Brazil at the World Cup but their financial issues means that a deal is unlikely.
They also cite Calciomercatoweb who report that Milan are considering Martinelli as a replacement for Leao should he depart in January or next summer. However, a big fee would be needed as the forward has become a key player under Mikel Arteta, having amassed 7 goal contributions in 14 Premier League appearances this term.
GOAL meanwhile state that Arsenal signed Martinelli for a fee of just £6m (around €7m) so they might just cash in if the offer was big enough and then use those funds to sign the next talent from South America.
