AC Milan winger Junior Messias has revealed that he was still rattling with excitement when he got home after the 2-1 derby win over Inter at San Siro.
You would be hard pushed to find anyone who would argue against the idea that Inter were the better side throughout the opening 45 minutes, as they generated a number of clear scoring opportunities, but only Ivan Perisic’s volley from a corner broke the deadlock.
However, Milan weathered the storm well, hung in there and in the second half – especially the final 16 minutes of the game – things changed dramatically. Giroud equalised with an instinctive finish from a deflected Brahim Diaz shot, and then he span Stefan de Vrij before firing into the bottom corner to win the spoils.
In an excerpt from the interview that will be released tomorrow on Mediaset, Messias spoke about his emotions after the success in the derby, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
“I’ll be honest, it’s been a long time since I felt so excited to win a match like this. After, when I was back at home, I still had the shakes because winning a derby like this is beautiful, a comeback, a beautiful thing,” he said.
Messias looked back to a more confident version of himself during the 4-0 win over Lazio on Wednesday night in the Coppa Italia, getting the nod to start over Alexis Saelemaekers and coming off around the hour mark.
“When you feel like this, even your head works differently. When you believe in it, in one on ones, going to attack the opponent and steal the ball it is different, because these are my characteristics,” he said.
