New interim manager Ralf Rangnick will not be in the dugout for the game, as he’s still waiting for a work permit.

Although Michael Carrick will be in charge, the German is likely to pick the team and will be evaluating the talent at his disposal.

Rangnick must decide what business United need to conduct in January, which could prove challenging considering his interim arrangement.

Here, Mirror Football collates the latest rumours form Old Trafford – including a surprise revelation from Jack Grealish.

Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish has admitted he was “really” close to joining United 18 months ago.

The England international completed a £100million move to the Etihad from Aston Villa in August, yet he could’ve followed a different path.

“I was really close to going,” Grealish told The Telegraph. “But nothing happened in the end.

“We played United in a pre-season game on [the] Saturday and I wasn’t supposed to play in a cup game at Burton.

“But after the United game I said to Purslow and my agent, ‘If I’m not leaving, I’ll sign my new contract.’
“I went in with my dog on Tuesday morning, signed the deal, and played later that day.

“We all agreed on the clause and if any team hit that, it’s a win-win because it means I’ve had an unbelievable season and Villa got £100m.”

Roma manager Jose Mourinho wants to sign United defender Diogo Dalot, according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.

Mourinho brought the 22-year-old to Old Trafford in June 2018 but he’s made just 24 Premier League appearances to date.

The Portuguese was sacked by United just six months after the transfer and Dalot was barely used by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, spending last season on loan at AC Milan.

Roma’s general manager Tiago Pinto is said to be discussing a deal with the Red Devils to bring the player to the Italian capital.

Rumours suggest Dalot wants to leave Old Trafford and will initially join Mourinho’s side on loan before making the move permanent.

The loan fee is thought to be €1.5m – around £1.3m – with United getting between €13m (£11m) and €15m (£12.8m) in the summer.

United are considering Roberto Mancini as their next permanent manager, according to The Telegraph.

The Italian, who led his country to Euro 2020 glory last summer, was Man City manager between December 2009 and May 2013.

During his time at the Etihad, Mancini won the FA Cup and Premier League – the first two trophies of the Sheikh Mansour era.

His contract with Italy doesn’t expire until 2026 but could leave his post if they don’t qualify for next year’s World Cup.

The Azzurri need to beat North Macedonia and then either Turkey or Portugal – away from home – to reach Qatar.

Failure to do that will put Mancini under severe pressure and it’s believed he’s already considering a return to the Premier League.
