Lukaku attempts to build a bridge with Ibrahimovic: “Zlatan is a warrior”

There seems to be signs that Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic no longer hold quite so fierce a grudge against one another.

The Swede and the Belgian dominated the headlines back in 2021 when the pair had a very heated altercation during the Coppa Italia quarter-final meeting between the two sides at San Siro.

Ibra said something which certainly rattled his former team-mate, who had to be calmed by other Inter players as the half-time whistle blew. After their altercation, a war of words ensued through social media with both proclaiming to be the ruler of Milan.

Lukaku went to Chelsea but is now back at the Nerazzurri while Ibra is back playing at 41, and the pair faced each other as Sweden took on Belgium yesterday, with Calciomercato.com relaying their words.

“Zlatan is a warrior, a player who has been at the top for many years and must be respected. Hats off to what he does at that age. There’s no hard feelings towards him, only respect,” Lukaku said after the game.

Ibra’s response: “He scored and therefore he’s happy. Are we friends after the compliments from him? I haven’t seen them, what happens on the pitch stays there.”
