AC Milan

Klopp highlights why Milan were able to briefly get the upper hand in defeat to Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has highlighted some of the key issues his side came up against during their win over AC Milan last night.

Milan returned to the Champions League after a seven-year long sabbatical that saw the Rossoneri claim Europa League places at best.  However, the return to the grandest continental stage of all saw Liverpool disappoint the Milan faithful with a 3-2 victory at Anfield.

The game saw the Reds make a second half comeback, after Milan had taken the lead going into the first half whistle. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp gave his thoughts on the blockbuster match in his post-match press conference.

Speaking to Sky Sports (via Milanlive), the German manager elaborated on his side’s tactical outlook.

“We started super, we played very well and we didn’t concede anything. We were punished just before half-time, defensively we didn’t keep the organisation. When there are too many spaces. They managed to find space between the lines and they took advantage of it,” he said.

Liverpool made a comeback in the space of twenty minutes after the restart of the second half, thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson.

“I never had the feeling that we could not recover. We scored two wonderful goals and we deserved it, but there were those ten minutes in which Milan changed the game.”

Milan return to playing ways on the weekend when they take on Masimmiliano Allegri’s struggling Juventus side.
