How the start to Milan’s Scudetto defence compares to 1999-00, 2004-05 and 2011-12

AC Milan have started their Scudetto defence by taking 14 points from the first seven rounds of action so far in Serie A, but how does that compare to previous title defences?

SempreMilan.it write how in the early stages of the 1999-00 season, the team coached by Alberto Zaccheroni at the time had a similar performance to today’s boys. They had 13 points in the league with 3 wins and 4 draws and 4 points in the first two games of the Champions League group stages (0-0 at Chelsea and 2-1 in favour of Milan at San Siro against Galatasaray).

The same amount of points arrived in the first 7 rounds of the 2004-05 championship, after the 17th Scudetto win the previous year, with four wins, two draws (including one in the derby against Inter) and a home defeat suffered against Messina. However, they had 6 points in the UCL group after beating Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 and Celtic 3-1.

On the other hand, the number of points was lower after the penultimate Scudetto won by the Rossoneri in 2010-11. At the beginning of the 2011-12 season Milan had just 11 points on the board in the first 7 rounds of the season, with the same number of Champions League points (4).
