GdS: Renewal of Pioli’s contract not seen as urgent by Milan’s owners despite results

Stefano Pioli has been widely praised for the work he has done as AC Milan manager, but he has less than 12 months remaining on his contract.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport reports, Pioli has put everyone in agreement that he is the right man to take the club forward, from the fans to the management to the ownership, who all appreciate him from all points of view.

So why hasn’t his deal been renewed yet? The answer, as per the report, is simple business planning. The fact remains that the coach has a contract that will run out next June, the same as Franck Kessie whom their seems to be much more urgency to keep.

For his part, Pioli behaved as he always has done: focusing on his work and leaving little room for outside influence. The former Lazio and Fiorentina boss never said a word out of place even when it seems like Ralf Rangnick was going to replace him, while he has never made demands to the club either.

Pioli will also never try and force the timing of a new contract given CEO Ivan Gazidis is someone he shares a great relationship from. Meanwhile, owners Elliott Management continue to back Pioli to the extent renewal is even considered something automatic, given the team’s results.

It is something that doesn’t even need to be discussed and that will happen in due course, as the American fund have total esteem in Pioli, as a coach and as a person. They consider him the right man for the growth project – the perfect coach in the perfect place at the perfect time.

In addition, the club actually have the option to unilaterally extend his deal by a year until 2023, which is seen as a sufficient guarantee for now.
