Ex-Rossoneri defender calls Milan’s season ‘extraordinary’ and labels Pioli an ‘innovator’

Former AC Milan defender Fulvio Collovati has called the Rossoneri season extraordinary and called Stefano Pioli an ‘innovator’.

Speaking whilst on Rai Sport during the Calcio Totale program (via Milan News), Collovati did not hold back in his praise of the Milan squad and the coach who led them to a first Scudetto since 2011.

Speaking of the team’s season and recent progress, Collovati said: “Milan’s path has been extraordinary. It is the youngest team but it is the one that has won the most.”

He then had specific praise for head coach Pioli who has proved many people wrong by achieving a league title with Milan.

“Pioli has shown himself to be an innovator, even with Kessie on Brozovic in the derby but then he moved Tonali in the decisive matches and he scored against Lazio and Verona.”

Milan went into the final day of the season last Sunday knowing that one point against Sassuolo would be enough to clinch the Serie A title.

The Rossoneri went above and beyond by netting three times in the first half and winning the game at the Mapei Stadium 3-0.

The goals were scored by Olivier Giroud and Franck Kessie. All three were assisted by Rafael Leao.
