CorSport: From team-mates to enemies

The upcoming game between Napoli and AC Milan on Sunday is a dress rehearsal of sorts for the Champions League, and it will feature a battle between two elite players in their positions.

Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) talks about the upcoming battle between Victor Osimhen and Mike Maignan, with the Napoli striker and the Milan goalkeeper both currently right at the top of their game.

Maignan has conceded 12 goals this season and according to xG (Expected Goals) that is two more than he should have conceded, but he has made 19 decisive saves of which some – like the one against Spurs in the second leg – preserved important results.

Maignan is a modern goalkeeper who knows how to play the ball with his feet, and he continues to demonstrate his remarkable shot-stopping ability in addition to his leadership.

However, a tough test is coming up against Osimhen, who has scored 21 goals this season. They have come in various ways too – from his head, right foot and left foot – showing the Nigerian striker is far from predictable. Stopping him will give Milan a much better chance, in all three games.
