CM: Romagnoli nullifies Atletico and moves towards renewal

Alessio Romagnoli seems more likely to renew his contract with AC Milan at the moment than leave the club on a free transfer, a report claims.

Romagnoli has been with Milan since 2015 and as reports, he has seen three ownership changes, six different coaches and just one trophy during his over six-year stay at the club. However, last night might have made all the suffering feel worth it as he was a key performer in the 1-0 win at the Wanda Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid.

It was a captain’s performance from Romagnoli who continues to show his connection to Milan and how much he feels like a leader. He sets an example in training at Milanello and has never said a word out of place despite having lost his undisputed starting spot after Fikayo Tomori’s arrival.

Romagnoli will soon turn 27 which means he is at an important stage in his career, but one where he can make choices as a mature character. Last Thursday a meeting took place between his agent Mino Raiola and the management of Milan where it was conveyed that Romagnoli’s request is for a multi-year contract worth €3.5m net per season plus €1m bonuses.

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are not willing to satisfy that amount and have offered €3m fixed per year plus €500k in bonuses linked to qualification for the Champions League, compared to the current €5m he gets. The parties have promised to meet again before Christmas to try to find an agreement, which seems the most likely solution.
