Chelsea midfielder wants Italy return as Milan directors hold talks in London

AC Milan directors spoke with the agents of Mateo Kovacic during their recent trip to London and have been offered the chance to sign the midfielder, a report claims.

According to a report from PianetaMilan, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara met with representatives from Kovacic’s agency VPA Sports Verified and they were offered the Croatia international ahead of the summer.

It is looking increasingly likely that Chelsea will miss out on Champions League qualification and possibly even the Europa League too while Kovacic’s contract runs out in June 2024 and he is playing less under Graham Potter, so a summer exit could eb mutually beneficial.

During the meeting it was made clear to Milan that Kovacic – who is 28 now – would like to return to Italy and to Milano having played for Inter before, with the Rossoneri being a destination he would consider welcome.

It remains to be seen if his salary demands would fall in line with Milan’s parameters because he earns close to €6m gross per season at Chelsea, but the Diavolo would be able to benefit from the Growth Decree if he were to sign a deal of two or more years.

Kovacic is therefore an option for Milan in their search to reinforce the midfield this summer but the terms of the deal would be evaluated along with any other more suitable targets.
