Belotti reflects on failed Milan move and ‘the summer of the 100 million’

AS Roma striker Andrea Belotti has blamed ‘bad advice’ when looking back at how his move to AC Milan almost materialised a few years ago.

Back in the summer of 2017, Belotti was heavily linked with Milan and several other top clubs. The Rossoneri had just been bought by a free-spending Chinese owner in Yonghong Li and – being a boyhood Rossoneri fan – many expected Belotti to arrive.

During the previous campaign in 2016-17, Belotti bagged an impressive 26 goals in the league and Milan made an attempt to sign him, but Torino’s demands were too high and he ended up remaining, as his agent confirmed a few months ago.

Belotti was interviewed by Cronache di Spogliatoioand he revealed some background regarding that summer in which he was literally one step away from Milan, with his comments relayed by Calciomercato.com.

“The summer of the 100 million, my name was everywhere. You read ‘Belotti’ everywhere. Probably, at the beginning I was advised in the wrong way. I had the strength to let it go,” he said.

“It was said that it was done with Milan for 58 million, that I had to go and play in the Champions League. Everywhere there was talk of my value, of what Belotti was worth, of what Belotti should do, of what was the best option for Belotti.”
