August schedule confirmed for AC Milan Women

AC Milan have officially announced their teams schedules for the women’s team for the month of August. What wasn’t noted in the announcement is that the AC Milan Women have pulled out of the Kaif Trophy tournament.

As was reported earlier, they were originally slated to play the competition. The team’s name was even included on the competition’s schedule sheet. Milan did not state why they pulled out of the competition, though it seems like they did so to focus on their upcoming Champions League qualifiers. The six teams listed on the tournament’s website confirms this, as does the schedule on the Austrian television site, Krone.

The Rossonere will, instead, be playing two separate friendlies. The first one will be on August 3rd as they’ll play Olimpia Lubiana in Tarvisio, Italy. The match will kick off at 17:00 CEST.

The second match will be on August 8th. Milan will fly to Spain to play against Atlético Madrid in the country’s capital. The match will take place at the Wanda Alcalá de Henares and kickoff time is at 20:30 CEST.

The friendly will be interesting for several different reasons. The first of which is that Laia Codina will meet her former league rivals. The last time she played them was while she was with Barça in early June as the match ended 4-3 in favour of the Rojiblancas.

It should be noted that the match was a make-up game, as the previous match between the two sides had been postponed. Barça also decided to field a makeshift lineup after a long season, as stars Alexia Putellas and Jenni Hermoso were being rested. Codina, on the other hand, played the full 90+ minutes of the game.

Milan will also meet another familiar face, as they’ll face full-back Alia Guagni. Guagni currently plays for Atlético Madrid but when she was the captain of Fiorentina and still played in Serie A, she managed to get the better of Milan on several occasions. The last time she played the team was in November of 2019, and the match between the Viola and Rossonere ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Rossonere will also be playing the friendly the same day both of Barcelona’s senior teams will play for the Joan Gamper Trophy. Both the men’s and women’s teams will play Milan’s league rivals, Juventus.

The upcoming matches will most certainly be interesting ones. More details about the games, including how to watch them, will be posted as soon as they’re made available.
