“You can carry over a bit of anger”

BVB will round off the English week with a Bundesliga trip to Stuttgart. They will take on VfB in the game of the round slot on Saturday evening (18:30 CET).

The Black & Yellows will not have fond memories of their reverse fixture against Stuttgart. The 5-1 loss at home in mid-December was their biggest defeat of the season. “I can remember the reverse fixture very well; it was definitely our worst performance of the season. There were a lot of things missing from us. We want to do everything better on Saturday and come away as winners,” declared BVB head coach Edin Terzic, adding: “We’ll definitely discuss some things from the reverse fixture. You can carry over a bit of anger when you go into a game like this.”

Opponents Stuttgart have four wins and two draws from their last seven matches, with the only defeat during that run coming away to Bayern Munich. “They’re playing with great consistency and have put together a very good team. Pellegrino Matarazzo has done a super job this season,” said Terzic. “They are very quick and technically strong going forward, while they’re very organised and disciplined in defence. And in Sasa Kalajdzic, they have a top finisher leading the line. They are courageous, disciplined and flexible, and deserve to be in the position they’re in in the table.” The Swabians currently occupy eighth place with 39 points.

None of the injured players will be ready to return to the matchday squad. Ansgar Knauff, who made his first start against Manchester City on Tuesday, picked up a knock in that game. “But we’re confident he’ll be able to board the plane to Stuttgart with us,” explained Terzic, who believes that the youngster produced a good performance. “You could see his quality and that he can go past people. He has earned himself further time in upcoming matches.”
