U19s go top with 4-0 derby victory

Borussia’s U19s were rewarded for showing great determination with a victory in the derby. At the end of a busy week involving midweek action, coach Mike Tullberg’s charges ran out 4-0 winners against Schalke 04 to go top of the table in the Junioren-Bundesliga West. All the goals came in the second half.

In the match in front of 1,000 spectators at the Jugendstadion in Brackel – among them CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke – BVB were the more active and better team in what was a hard-fought battle for most of the game, but failed to take advantage of some good chances. The sides remained level until the 56th minute, when Bradley Fink broke the deadlock, firing home from Samuel Bamba’s pass to make it 1-0. Nnamdi Collins added a second in the 81st minute when he headed home a fine free kick from Göktan Gürpüz. Substitutes Ayukayoh Mengot and Julian Rijkhoff both found the net in the closing stages for a final score of 4-0.

The Dortmund youth team have now climbed to the summit of the table on 16 points, leapfrogging Schalke (13), and will look to defend their lead next Sunday in the next top of the table clash against 1. FC Cologne. (wiwi)
