Roy Keane weighs in on Harry Kane-Erling Haaland debate as he urges Man Utd to sign striker

Roy Keane has given his verdict on the hotly-contested debate over whether Harry Kane or Erling Haaland would be the better fit for Manchester United.

Tottenham talisman Kane, 27, and rising Borussia Dortmund talent Haaland, 20, are considered two of the finest strikers in Europe, and both have been linked with big-money transfers to Old Trafford.

Kane has 24 goals and 10 assists for Spurs this season, while his Norwegian counterpart has chipped in with 32 goals and nine assists for the Bundesliga giants.

The form of Manchester United’s No.9s pales in comparison, with Anthony Martial, 25, and Edinson Cavani, 34, managing just 15 goals between them this season.

And Red Devils legend Keane had a definitive answer when asked if his former side need to sign a striker, telling Sky Sports : “Yes 100 per cent because United will need one.

“Anthony Martial’s injury problems – you wouldn’t hang your hat on him. Edinson Cavani’s pushing on, he can’t play every week.

“United want to get back to winning titles so they’ll certainly need another striker. Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, I’d take any of them.”

Would Erling Haaland or Harry Kane be the better fit for Manchester United? Have your say in the comments.

Asked to pick between the two strikers he mentioned, Keane added: “Probably Haaland because of his age and the investment behind it, but I wouldn’t say no to Kane either if he was the second option.”

The Red Devils will face an uphill battle to sign either Kane or Haaland, with Tottenham and Dortmund sure to demand astronomical transfer fees for their respective prized assets.

Adding to United’s difficulty, the latest reports suggest Spurs will not sell Kane to a Premier League rival under any circumstances.

Haaland, meanwhile, is linked with clubs across Europe and the Red Devils reportedly harbour doubts about entering negotiations with Dortmund after their failed pursuit of Jadon Sancho last summer.
