Borussia Dortmund

Record equalled as BVB record 23rd win of 2021

In their game away to VfL Wolfsburg, Borussia Dortmund had more shots (16-15), more possession (56%), more Expected Goals (2.57-1.71) and ran five kilometres more than their opponents… The facts.

Win after win: Borussia Dortmund have won 17 of their 20 Bundesliga matches since April. The 3-1 victory in Wolfsburg was their 23rd of the 2021 calendar year – equalling the club record set in 2012! However, there were 37 rather than 34 matchdays in 2021 on account of the coronavirus.

Good form: The Black & Yellows have won six of their last seven Bundesliga games.

BVB a bogey team: Wolfsburg have taken only a point from their last 13 Bundesliga meetings with Borussia Dortmund. It’s VfL’s longest-ever winless run against a single club; each of the last six meetings have ended in defeat.

Run over: Until Wout Weghorst’s opener, BVB had not conceded a goal against Wolfsburg in nine games and 848 minutes of football. The goal brought an end to the Bundesliga’s longest-ever goalless run for one team against another!

From the spot: Emre Can converted his second Bundesliga penalty as well. He also slotted home from the spot on Matchday 9 in the 2-0 win in Bielefeld. Marco Reus won a penalty for the 12th time in his Bundesliga career.

Up and running: Donyell Malen has scored in three consecutive competitive games for BVB for the first time (beforehand in Lisbon and against Stuttgart).

From range: Borussia Dortmund scored their sixth goal of the season from long range – a league high!

Off the post: …the same applies to hitting the woodwork. Nico Schulz became the seventh Black & Yellow this season to hit the post or bar.
