RB Leipzig CEO deals Milan and Bayern Munich a blow in pursuit of creative midfielder

AC Milan have been dealt a big blow in their pursuit of playmaker Marcel Sabitzer as RB Leipzig have publicly declared their intention to renew his deal.

Milan continue to be linked with a number of different targets to reinforce the attack as the departure of Hakan Calhanoglu on a free transfer to Inter has left a gap in the squad to fill. A variety of different names have been linked such as Hakim Ziyech, Isco, Nikola Vlasic and more, but Sabitzer’s name is one that persists given his deal expires in June 2022.

Speaking to Sky Sport Deutschland, RB Leipzig CEO Olivier Mintzlaff spoke about Sabitzer’s future and the links with a move to Milan and Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich, confirming that they want him to remain part of their plans and discussions over the extension of his deal will be opened.

“Our will is to renew his contract. Now we will calmly begin the talks with him and his agent for the extension and we will see in which direction the matter will develop,” he said (via MilanNews).
