The 63-year-old has taken charge at Old Trafford until the end of the season, but arrives with a famous philosophy which is expected to shake things up at United.

Rangnick is well renowned for revolutionising German tactics, inventing gegenpressing which has inspired a whole host of managers from his homeland, but his style of play is far from the football that United are used to producing.

Therefore the interim United boss has a perfect solution to speed up his influence at Old Trafford, with January fast approaching.

Ralf Rangnick may turn to his former side in January

Rangnick prepares to take charge of his first match on Sunday as United host Crystal Palace, but the German has already expressed some concerns about implementing his style.

Rangnick is expected to be given substantial funds in January to bolster his side, and the German should turn to former employers RB Leipzig, as well as those who have left the Bundesliga side since 2019.

Nkunku arrived at Leipzig as Rangnick departed but the German was a huge fan of the midfielder, and even attempted to sign him from Paris Saint Germain, and Werner was one of his main stars at Leipzig before the forward earnt a move to Chelsea.

Cristiano Ronaldo may be a brilliant option to have, but the 36-year-old has never been one to press and stars such as Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are expected to thrive with the new style of play.

However, they could use the support, and with Rangnick preferring to field two strikers, a vacancy opens up within the United attack.

With former players leading by example, it could fast track United as they take on a new identity, and it could see them mount an unlikely charge in Europe after Leipzig enjoyed lengthy runs under Rangnick.

Leipzig also continue to do a lot of business with English sides, demonstrating that a potential option for Rangnick is far from unrealistic,
