Man Utd transfer round-up: Erling Haaland replacement as Hakan Calhanoglu delivers blow


After an encouraging season which has seen them emerge as Manchester City ’s closest challengers for the Premier League title, Manchester United are set to be active in the summer transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs recruits in several key areas if the Red Devils are to close the gap on City and win their first title since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

With Edinson Cavani looking set to depart Old Trafford, a goalscoring forward will be high on the shopping list for United.

They also need to strengthen at the back, with Solskjaer’s side looking vulnerable at the back on occasion this summer.

Manchester United are set to prioritise a centre-back this summer to partner Harry Maguire at the heart of their defence.

But one name they will need to cross off their transfer shortlist is David Alaba, with Sky Sports reporting he has agreed a deal to join Real Madrid.

United had been linked with the Austrian, who is out of contract at the end of the season, but it now appears the Madrid have won the race to sign him.

The Red Devils had already begun making plans for summer arrivals by offering AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu a contract.

The Turkish international’s contract expires this summer and he was expected to leave the San Siro, but he appears to have had a change of heart.

TDFichajes report that Milan have now reached an agreement with Calhanoglu on a new three-year deal for the 27-year-old to stay in Serie A.

With Edinson Cavani edging closer to a departure, United will prioritise a new striker when the summer window opens.

As well as Erling Haaland, the Red Devils are also believed to be eyeing a move for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Andre Silva.

Silva has had an astonishing season in the Bundesliga, scoring 24 goals in 28 appearances, attracting the interest of United.

But now Bild report that Borussia Dortmund have joined the race to sign the Portugal international, with BVB viewing him as the perfect replacement for Haaland.
