Will Haaland leave Dortmund this summer?

Manchester United have stuck to the ‘quality not quantity’ mantra with their summer transfer window business so far.

The Red Devils have made just two major moves as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer assembles a squad able to mount a serious Premier League title charge.

Borussia Dortmund and England winger Jadon Sancho joined United for an eye-watering £73 million as the Norweigan boss looks to add pace and goals to his frontline.

Real Madrid’s World Cup and Champions League-winning defender Raphael Varane is also on his way to the Theatre of Dreams and looks set to form a formidable centre-back partnership with Harry Maguire.

Tom Heaton is the only other newcomer so far in this window, although the former Aston Villa shot-stopper looks to be little more than a squad player with David De Gea and Dean Henderson both still on the United books.

Solskjaer’s side is shaping up to be serious contenders for the 2021/22 campaign but fans will still be hoping for one or two additional names to bolster the side.

These are the latest transfer rumours coming out of Old Trafford.

Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland is one of the most sought after players on the planet after netting 41 goals in all competitions for the German outfit last season.

The striker is just 21 years old and has the potential to become a world-beater.

His scintillating form last year was helped in no small part by the performances of Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

The two formed a clinical partnership and helped the club to a third-place Bundesliga finish.

Sancho has now found a new home at Old Trafford after this summer’s transfer and Haaland has spoken out about missing his strike partner.

Speaking at the Dortmund pre-season camp, the talisman said: “Jadon and I had a really good understanding, he’s a top player and it’s sad he’s gone, but that’s football.”

The Norweigan’s fond words about United’s new acquisition will be music to the ears of Red Devils fans as the club continues to be linked with a move for Haaland.

ESPN are reporting that Solskjaer is desperate to land a formidable striker with Haaland at the top of that list.

Following a big-spending summer so far, any such move may have to wait until next year, but the Dortmund striker’s fond words about Sancho certainly stand United in good stead.

Aston Villa encouraged to make loan swoop for Axel Tuanzebe

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan has urged Aston Villa to make a loan move for Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe.

The 23-year-old seems unlikely to get a look-in at Old Trafford this season as the arrival of Raphael Varane will push him even further down the centre-back pecking order.

Tuanzebe spent 18 months on loan at Villa Park from 2018 to 2019 and helped the Villains to promotion.

Wheelan suggested that Dean Smith should bring the defender back for another temporary spell.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, he said: “When you look at the strength in depth of centre-back, I don’t think they have enough. It depends if they’re going to go for a three and he goes straight into that. Maybe that is the thinking behind it.

“The fact he’s worked with him before, good background at Manchester United good age as well.

“You need to put pressure on two defenders there don’t really have a great deal of pressure behind them. You’ve got to start covering bases. If one of those picks up an injury or suspension, you need somebody that in there that’s going to handle the pressure.”

Smith currently has Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa and Kortney Hause at his disposal in the centre-back role.

The Villa boss will have to see off rumoured competition from Newcastle United, should he want to lure Tuanzebe back to Villa Park.

Diogo Dalot’s return to Manchester United after his AC Milan loan spell could be a brief one.

La Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy reported on Sunday morning that the club have been in constant contact with the Red Devils in attempts to bring Dalot back to the San Siro.

The Italian paper are claiming that the United full-back is an absolute priority for Stefano Pioli and are sure he will return to Italy.

Dalot moved to Manchester United in 2018 from Porto and spent last season on loan with the Italian side.

It’s not all bad news for United fans who’d rather the Portuguese defender stay, as The Express report that Dalot’s departure is a necessary one in order to facilitate any potential move for Atletico Madrid’s Keiran Trippier.
