Man Utd transfer round-up: ‘Confidence growing’ in Jadon Sancho pursuit

Manchester United are growing increasingly confident that they will sign Jadon Sancho in the coming months.

The Red Devils tried and failed to sign the winger last month but are poised to try once more.

United have just finished second in the Premier League and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to build on that progress.

A centre-half and a winger are among the positions being targeted by United this summer.

A striker too was on the shortlist but Edinson Cavani’s decision to stay put means there is no longer a clamour to bring someone in.

That said, Harry Kane is considering his Tottenham future and United are one of a small number of clubs who could afford such a deal.

Here are the latest transfer rumours coming out of Old Trafford.

Confidence growing on Sancho

United are confident that a deal can be done this summer for Sancho, reports The Athletic.

The Red Devils made moves to sign the Borussia Dortmund winger last summer but an agreement could not be found.

Sancho remains keen on a return to Manchester having left the Ethiad several years ago.

Dortmund’s finances mean they may be forced into player sales and the Englishman’s price has dropped over the past 12 months.

A winger is high on Solskjaer’s wish list and Sancho perfectly suits the profile of player they want to add.

Atleti eye Trippier replacement

Kieran Trippier is a United target and Atletico Madrid have already begun eyeing his replacement should he leave.

According to Marca, the Spanish side want to sign Hector Bellerin from Arsenal.

The right-back is poised to leave the Emirates and has attracted attention from elsewhere.

United have been linked with players in that area as doubts surfaced about Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s ability going forward.

Eight players axed

The Red Devils have confirmed that goalkeepers Sergio Romero and Joel Pereira are among eight players who will leave the club this summer.

Jacob Carney, Mark Helm, Iestyn Hughes, Arnau Puigmal, Max Taylor, Aliou Traore are the other six.

Romero’s departure had long been expected following his efforts to leave the club last summer.

His goalkeeper colleague Lee Grant could yet stay put at Old Trafford however as he opens contract talks.

Juan Mata could also be handed a new deal.
