Liverpool transfer round-up: Man City enter race for Neuhaus as Reds linked with Porto star

Liverpool have been linked with a number of midfielders already this summer following Georginio Wijnaldum’s departure.

The Dutch international left the club to sign for Paris Saint-Germain, putting pen to paper on a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 giants earlier this month.

Having missed just one Premier League game for Liverpool over the past two seasons, Jurgen Klopp now faces the task of finding a replacement for Wijnaldum.

He does have several options already in his squad, but it is no surprise to see Liverpool being linked with midfield reinforcements this summer.

Man City enter race for Neuhaus

Liverpool are interested in Borussia Monchengladbach’s rising star Florian Neuhaus and they are planning to keep a close eye on the midfielder’s performances for Germany at Euro 2020.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have also been linked with the 24-year-old and now, according to a report from AS, Manchester City have also entered the race.

The report notes that City are one of several top European sides who are interested in Neuhaus’ services, but that Liverpool have ‘moved first’.

Neuhaus said earlier this week that he would be interested in a move abroad, telling German outlet Sport 1: “I am not committed.

“I am a person who likes to dare something. I could very well imagine going abroad. I don’t necessarily have to go to Bayern Munich.

“But I don’t necessarily have to leave either, because I’m currently feeling very much at home at Borussia Mönchengladbach.”

Liverpool linked with Porto star

According to Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha, Liverpool are among the clubs interested in Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira.

The 21-year-old is out of contract at the end of next season and the report states that Vieira has so far ‘refused’ initial talks over a new deal.

Liverpool are said to be eyeing a move for Vieira with it claimed that Marko Grujic, who spent last season on loan at Porto, could be used as part of a swap deal.

Reds urged to sign Tielemans

Former Aston Villa and England striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged Liverpool to make a move for Leicester City star Youri Tielemans this summer.

Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad reported last month that Tielemans was among the names being considered by the Reds as a potential replacement for Wijnaldum and Agbonlahor believes the midfielder would be a “great” signing for Liverpool.

However, he also warned that it will be difficult to persuade Leicester to let the player leave, telling Football Insider: “He’s definitely good enough.

“He’s a great player and Liverpool definitely need to replace Wijnaldum. I thought they needed another midfielder even if Wijnaldum had stayed.

“It’s definitely something Liverpool need to get over the line. I just don’t see Leicester letting him go though, even if the player wanted to go. I don’t see Leicester letting any of their better players go.”
