Even where there was actually no gap to be found, he still slipped through! Jamal Musiala put Bayern in the lead with a goal worth seeing in the 1-1 home draw against Union Berlin. A goal that very few players would put away in the same manner. Surrounded by opponents, the Bayern youngster jinked past and darted between Berlin’s Grischa Pröml and Robin Knoche, until he had just Union ‘keeper Andreas Luthe to beat – and the 18-year-old remained ice-cool with his finish and slotted the ball home to make it 1-0.

After three goals from off the bench in the Bundesliga, Musiala scored for the first time as a starter in Germany’s top flight – and his goal was certainly deserving of all three points. But even if it wasn’t enough for the winning goal after a late Union equaliser, the Germany international at least ensured that Bayern could extend their impressive club record to 64 successive competitive games without drawing a blank.
Musiala was one of the assets in the game against the men from Berlin, and not just because of his goal. In a Bayern team filled with many young players due to a number of absences, the attacking artist stood out with 4 shots on goal (the highest number of those on the field) and only narrowly had fewer attempts than all the visitors combined (6).

Musiala also scored in the Champions League, in a 4-1 win at Lazio in the Last 16.
“All the young players did very well. I was happy with all the players,” coach Hansi Flick said, praising his team afterwards, and had to acknowledge how much Musiala in particular had exerted himself. “Jamal had calf cramps, but that is natural given such a performance from a player as young as him. It will be gone by Tuesday,” explained the 56-year-old. By then, the all-important quarter-final second leg away at Paris Saint-Germain is on the agenda – and Musiala could start his own little run: The midfielder was one of those who scored in the last UCL away match, against Lazio in Rome (4-1).
