It’s fair to say Jadon Sancho’s time at Manchester United has yet to become the roaring success many anticipated.

The England winger came to Old Trafford with high expectations, having racked up 38 goals and 45 assists in his 104 Bundesliga games for Borussia Dortmund.

However, after playing more than 500 minutes in a United shirt, the 21-year-old is yet to register a goal or assist in any competition for the Premier League side and has been in and out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI.

The slow start has not gone unnoticed, with one former England regular drawing comparisons with Memphis Depay and Wilfried Zaha – two other attacking talents who have thrived since leaving Old Trafford but who were unable to make a significant impact in Manchester.

Depay arrived with similar excitement in 2015, having impressed for PSV and the Netherlands, only to leave United after an underwhelming 18 months.

” Manchester United is a huge club and not everybody hits the ground running,” Robinson told Football Insider .

“The truth of the matter is, it doesn’t work for some players. You only have to look at the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Memphis Depay.

Sancho has made six starts and five substitute appearances for Manchester United since his big-money move.

However, he has only completed 90 minutes once, in the Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham United, and was a 73rd-minute substitute in the midweek Champions League win against Atalanta.

Former United captain Gary Neville came to Sancho’s defence last week, though, describing the winger as “a victim of the current performances of the team”.

Manchester United host Liverpool on Sunday in their next Premier League game, having won none of their last three in the competition.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team are top of their Champions League group thanks to late wins against Villarreal and Atalanta, but sit outside the top four domestically.

A big Sancho performance could come in handy against unbeaten Liverpool, with whom he was linked before making the move to Old Trafford.
