Chelsea transfer round-up: Timo Werner interest as rivals launch Federico Chiesa bid

Chelsea will begin their Premier League season in less than three weeks’ time.

Following a UEFA Super Cup clash with Villarreal in Northern Ireland, the Blues’ top-flight tribulations will begin as they welcome Crystal Palace.

After winning the Champions League, securing a top-four finish and reaching an FA Cup final in four months, Thomas Tuchel hasn’t received anywhere near the £200 million backing Frank Lampard was given last summer.

Countless names have been linked but Roman Abramovich is yet to open his wallet and only waving goodbye to the likes of Olivier Giroud, Fikayo Tomori and Marc Guehi.

So with such a bloated squad and it being Tuchel’s first opportunity to clear out, the transfer window has been dominated by departures.

Nevertheless, reports of incomings are still doing the rounds.

Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest news from Stamford Bridge.

Bayern Munich have registered an interest in signing Chelsea striker Timo Werner, according to Football Insider.

The German giants already have goal machine Robert Lewandowski in their ranks but new manager Julian Nagelsmann is known for his flexible attacks and seemingly sees Werner as an option.

Nagelsmann worked with the Blues forward at RB Leipzig until Chelsea paid £48million last summer.

A German source has told the outlet that Bayern have “concrete interest” in bringing the 25-year-old back to the Bundesliga.

It’s worth noting that the Blues are said to be interested in Lewandowski, who netted 41 goals in league play last season to break Gerd Muller’s 40-year record.

Leeds eyeing young star

Leeds United are interested in signing midfielder Conor Gallagher, per The Athletic.

The 21-year-old spent last season with West Bromwich Albion and is expected to temporarily head out of Stamford Bridge again this term.

football.london recently claimed that the playmaker, who has been with the club since the age of six, has held discussing with Crystal Palace as well as the Peacocks, but wants to impress Tuchel in pre-season.

Marcelo Bielsa is looking to secure another top-half finish with Leeds and challenge for European football, having impressed on their return to the Premier League last time out.

Rivals launch Chiesa bid

Liverpool have made a sensational €100 million (£85.6m) offer for mooted Blues target Federico Chiesa rejected by Juventus, according to a report from Italy.

Chief Bild reporter Christian Falk recently claimed that Chelsa were looking to sign Chiesa and suggested a similar offer had some from Stamford Bridge.

Fabrizio Romano, however, followed by reporting that the Bianconerihad no intention of selling the 22-year-old winger, who is still co-owned by Fiorentina.

Chiesa featured in all seven of Italy’s Euro 2020 matches, scoring twice as the Azzurri triumphed.
