Borussia versus Bayern: The facts on the top match

Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich are set to meet in the Bundesliga for the 107th time. Here are the facts on Saturday evening’s (kick-off 18:30 CET) top match at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK.

The scenario: The two teams will go into the match level on points (15). BVB have one more victory to their name than FCB, who have emerged victorious in four of their previous eight matches this season (plus three draws and one defeat).

History: This will be the 41st meeting between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich in the last 12 years. For the purpose of comparison: there have only been 25 derbies against Schalke during this time period. In addition to the 24 Bundesliga meetings, there have been seven cup ties (including three finals), eight SuperCup games and – the highlight – the UEFA Champions League final in 2013. Borussia have won on 13 occasions, Bayern Munich on 24.

Home/away: Including last season, Borussia Dortmund have won four of their last five home games and Bayern Munich have lost just one of their past five away matches (a 1-0 defeat in Augsburg on 17 September).

Head-to-head record: This fixture in Dortmund has produced 16 BVB victories, 18 Bayern wins and 19 draws. No other opponent has inflicted more home defeats on BVB. Borussia have failed to find the net against Bayern in the Bundesliga on 32 occasions – but by the same token, no other team has kept as many clean sheets against Bayern as BVB (22).

Statistics: Borussia Dortmund and FC Augsburg are the only two clubs yet to draw a match this season. Bayern Munich have lost only one of their last 10 matches but have won just one of their past five.

Names: Mats Hummels is set to make his 26th appearance in a “Bundesliga Klassiker” – a tally surpassed by only Michael Zorc (28) and Oliver Kahn (27). Marco Reus has amassed 19 scorer points in his 33 competitive appearances against Bayern Munich (12 goals, seven assists). Edin Terzic has not lost any of his previous four coaching battles with Julian Nagelsmann. The last meeting came when the BVB coach oversaw a 4-1 victory over a Leipzig side still coached by Nagelsmann in the 2021 DFB-Pokal final.

Biggest home win: It came back on 3 June 1967. The Black & Yellows ran out 4-0 winners at Stadion Rote Erde thanks to braces from both Lothar Emmerich and Reinhold Wosab.
