Arsenal set to revive interest in Christopher Nkunku amid RB Leipzig summer sale

Arsenal are set to revive their interest in Christopher Nkunku ahead of the summer transfer window.

RB Leipzig are gearing up for a tough summer with several players linked with moves away, while one key man is already on his way out.

Dayot Upamecano has agreed to sign for Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich and that looks to have kicked off a number of major departures.

His defensive partner Ibrahima Konate has caught the attention of the biggest clubs in the Premier League with Chelsea and Manchester United interested.

But Liverpool are the favourites to sign the Frenchman and are ready to pay his €40m release clause while Marcel Sabitzer has been linked with an Anfield switch, though Tottenham are also in the hunt.

And Arsenal look set to get in on the feeding frenzy and ramp up their interest in Nkunku.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star has long been on the radar at the Emirates and a move was planned to mark Unai Emery’s arrival back in 2018.

That failed to materialise, though, but according to Sky Germany, Arsenal are keen.

Nkunku signed for RB Leipzig in 2019 and has been used in a variety of roles by Julian Nagelsmann this season.

Normally a midfielder by trade, the 23-year-old has operated on either wing, up front and as a No. 10 at times over the course of the campaign.

Mikel Arteta has several targets going into the summer transfer window and midfield is one area he wants to bolster.

As well as Nkunku, Sevilla star Joan Jordan and Real Betis ace Guido Rodriguez have been linked with north London switches.

However, the Gunners may have to sell in order to raise funds and the futures of the likes of Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and William Saliba remain up in the air.
